WALSALL, SADDLERS TO THE WORLD.

KNOWLE SOCIETY MEETING on MONDAY (ALL WELCOME)

Our guest speaker, Cliff Kirby-Tibbits, will take to the saddle on Monday at 7.30pm in Knowle Village Hall and lead us on a ride through the history of Walsall and how the nearby West Midlands town came to be seen as the saddle-making capital of the World.

Did you know that at one time there were about 10,000 people grafting away in over 150 saddle manufacturing companies in the town and that about 40 of these survive today.

But why Walsall? What roles did the arrival of the canals and the Industrial Revolution play? What was the significance of the nearby pits?

Cliff, who spent a lifelong career at the heart of the trade will prove an informative and light-hearted guide and all are welcome to join him for this trip through time.
