HERBERT AUSTIN and CARS at LONGBRIDGE
In 1895, motoring pioneer Herbert Austin built his first car, a three wheeler. Some years later he founded the Austin Motor Company at Longbridge, then considered an ‘out of town’ location.
The rest, as they say, is history – a long history of company success which saw, in our early years for some of us, the A30, A35, A40 and then the Mini become leading models on British roads.
Hear more about the man who did so much to establish motoring in the UK and the car industry in Birmingham at our Speaker Evening this month, next Monday, 19 June. Charlie Plain-Jones will give his talk, entitled ‘Local Hero, Herbert Austin’ at 7.30pm in Knowle Village Hall.
All welcome.
