SOLIHULL CELEBRATES THE HONG KONG MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

The town of Solihull now has a population of nearly 5000 Hong Kong British National residents.  Mid-Autumn Festival is a harvest festival celebrated in Hong Kong and during the festival, lanterns of all size and shapes – which symbolise beacons that light people’s path to prosperity and good fortune – are carried and displayed. The Mid-Autumn Festival is based on the legend of Chang’e, the Moon goddess in Chinese mythology.

For the very first time, five community groups including Solihull Methodist Church, CZSA, UKWR, Solihull Hong kongers and Global Mission Church are collaborating with Touchwood Solihull to celebrate the festivities.   Guests to the event can expect traditional Lion Dancing, arts and crafts including lantern making and face painting as well as live music.  Renowned southeast Asian restaurant chain Yakinori will be serving bespoke Hong Kong-style noodles and Bubble Ci-tea will also be serving Hong Kong style milky tea to mark the occasion.  In addition, there will be an eye-catching window display at John Lewis who will be hosting an acoustic performance by Hong Konger musicians. The event is happening on Saturday 14 September, 11am – 4pm @ Touchwood, Homer Rd, Solihull B91 3GJ
