As part of the Solihull Council’s Low Carbon Future Mobility project, which is supported by the West Midlands Combined Authority, an innovative scheme is underway to look at how zero-carbon, autonomous vehicles could be integrated into the borough’s transport network in the future. Part of the route passes through Knowle on the Warwick Road. While the vehicle will normally be ‘driving itself’ a human driver will also be able to take over. For more details, see:-
As has been our practice in previous years, the excess takings from the sale of Knowle Society Christmas Cards has been donated to Solihull Hospital. Our thanks to Mike Humphreys for providing the image and the volunteers who sold the cards in the forced absence of the usual shop in the Library.
The organisers of the 2022 Commonwealth Games are already advertising job vacancies. If you are interested in playing any part in organising the Games, or helping during the events you can find out more details and register an interest here:-
The Draft Local Plan includes a proposal to develop a new Arden Academy on land behind the existing school and Milverton Road and re-use the existing site for new housing. In the Society’s Webinar on 15th March, Martin Murphy, CEO of Arden Academy explained the need for the new school, set out the vision for it and answered audience questions. If you missed it, you can watch the recording and/or browse the presentation slides to study them in greater detail.
There is still time to look at the proposals and to comment. If you use Internet Explorer you will only be able to tick the preset boxes, but if you use a more modern browser you will be able to add a plain text comment. Also, the site has been updated with a map which allows you to see the comments about specific locations and add your own if you have a point about a specific place.
