Over the past few days knitted creatures and items have been mysteriously appearing around Knowle. Who is behind this invasion? Even the recently cleared Millennium Post has new residents – a wedding couple. The newly installed cycle racks are being used by a woollen covered cycle. This was an example of guerrilla knitting art activity initiated by residents of Jobs Close Residential home in Knowle this weekend. Residents (in their 90’s), local artists, staff, relatives have been involved in designing and making a remembrance garden.
The idea was formulated by the art group set up during the Arts Council and Solihull MBC funded project ‘Sustaining the Person Within’. During this time residents rediscovered a variety of art / craft skills and explored new ideas including setting up their own knitting group and they now donate blankets to Birmingham City Mission.
The group then decided that they would like to celebrate the lives of their residents past and present by ‘Yarn Bombing’ their exterior entrance on Thursday 10th April, this was designed to coincide with Solihull Artists Forum Art Fair at Knowle Village Hall where their art work was on display over the weekend. Having completed Jobs Close the ‘infestation’ spread all over the village, creating much amusement.
