Christmas card campaign raises funds for Solihull Hospital Oncology Day Unit

A big thank you to all those who helped raise funds for the Solihull Hospital Oncology unit by buying Christmas cards through the initiative organised by Janet Eržen – chair of our local History Committee. A thanks also to Mike Humphreys who was behind the design of the cards. A letter from Beckie Knight from UHB Trust follows:

Dear Janet – Thank you so much for your call this afternoon, was lovely to speak to you again. From everyone here at Solihull Hospital Charity, I’d like to thank you all so much for supporting the Oncology Day Unit here at Solihull Hospital Charity with the sales of your Christmas cards.  Your support will make a real difference to patients and their families who visit the unit every week.

As mentioned, we’d love for you to join us at Solihull Hospital for a cheque presentation with our Fundraising Manager, Samantha Howell, and would love to cover your fundraising in our charity newsletter, Love Solihull Hospital. In regards to our Children’s Appeal at Solihull Hospital, I can confirm that this is currently in place in order to raise funds to transform the children’s areas within Solihull Hospital to make them more bright and comfortable, thereby minimising stress for patients and their families when visiting the Hospital.

This includes a refurbishment of our Children’s Outpatients Department, which will transform the Department, and will include a chill-out area complete with TV and games consoles for the older children to a soft play area for toddlers, making a space for everyone to feel relaxed.

The appeal will also create a sensory room for children who have complex needs.  The room will include equipment and facilities such as bubble machines, soft play areas, projectors, mirrors and sensory toys making the area much more accessible and stress free. For some, hospital may never be an enjoyable place, but with the aid of this beautiful new department along with specialist toys, activities and games it will make it that little bit better.

Please do let me know if I can be of any further assistance, and again, thank you all so very much for your incredibly generous support.

Kindest regards

Beckie Knight
