The Society’s guided walk on 15th March around the sites in Knowle where marinas have been suggested or rumoured was exceptionally well attended – 44 people and three dogs. Peter Ewin, the Society’s Chairman, gave explanations of the locations of the marinas.
Several sites have been proposed around Knowle, including one off Jacobean Lane (the first proposal) and one here as in this picture, between the canal locks and the A4141 behind Wyndley Garden Centre.
Walkers enjoyed fine weather, mulled wine and homemade mince pies. A fine day meant a good turnout for this popular walk which has become something of a tradition in Knowle.
The walk began at the Guild House, went through the churchyard to Kixley Lane, along Elvers Green Lane towards the ford, then across the fields to come out on Hampton Road near Grimshaw Hall. After taking mulled wine and mince pies at the canal-side car park the walk returned to Kixley Lane along the side of the Grand Union Canal.
