Society’s volunteers thanked with cakes!

On Saturday 9th October the Society held a gathering for those who currently support the Society through volunteering across a wide range of activities such as Newsletter distributors, Committee members, Library volunteers and others. This was a small thank you for what they do in enabling the Society to function. It was no real surprise that some of them came forward to offer even more help in the future, which was gratefully received.

Christmas lights switched on

This annual event was a great hit as usual. A cooperative venture between The Knowle Society and Knowle Traders, it enjoys the support of the Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club, the Parish Church, the Ardennaires (from Arden Academy) the police, friends from the Royal British Legion and of course Father Christmas himself. The event is a significant start to Christmas for young and old and is an important part of the traders’ bid to attract and retain business into Knowle.

This popular annual event is being held on Monday 26th November at the usual time of around 4.15-4.30 (we can never be quite sure exactly when Father Christmas will arrive as travel conditions in the Arctic can be quite severe at times). Because he is going to be so busy (it seems that a lot more children have been really well-behaved this year) he has asked us to bring it forward by one week from the date advertised in the Society’s green Programme Card. Of course we were happy to oblige and the traders are making a special effort to put up the lights in good time. The tree erecting team is visiting the gym to get those muscles in trim for hauling up a monster tree and the Ardennaires are putting in extra rehearsals to be ready in time for the carol singing. We just hope that someone has bought the Vicar a new book of jokes for his birthday! (16th Oct 2012)

Successful quiz evening

Our 2012 social event was a Quiz with a Fish & Chip supper held on 15 October at Knowle Village Hall.

Seventy-two people in 12 teams participated, answering a range of questions on interesting & diverse topics, including a round based on our booklet “50 Years of Knowle Society”!! The competition was closely contested, resulting in a win for the Chantry Heathers.

A big Thank You to Quizmaster Steve for providing an entertaining but instructive evening.
