| Black Boy Wednesday 23 June 2010 |
|
The midsummer walk was well supported by 15 members on a brilliant
summer evening, just made for a stroll in the Warwickshire countryside.
Meeting at the Black Boy public house we set off across the fields.
Just south of the Black Boy, on the opposite side of the canal we passed
through a field where Warwick Council have just granted permission for a
marina for 20 boats. It will be interesting to see what impact
this has on the surroundings. We continued south through fields,
including one where several horses took a close interest in our
presence. Reaching Rising Lane we joined the canal towpath to
return to the Black Boy where some made use of the facilities for
refreshment.

Boxing Day Walk - 2009 |
Once again the weather was fine and
bright for the Society's traditional Boxing Day walk. (How much longer
can we be so lucky?) The snow had very largely cleared and the remaining
patches of ice were fairly small but still treacherous. However all was
well with everyone completing the walk and getting home safely. The
turn-out was again very good with about 80 people plus a few dogs walking.
Although this was not as many in some years, it's still a very good number.
It was particularly good to see families out walking together, including some
family members who had travelled some distance although I assume they hadn't
come just for the walk.
Thanks must go again to those
members of the Society who helped to make the event work, whether acting as
marshals or supplying and helping to serve the mince pies and mulled wine.
Without their help we would not be able to hold this popular walk. LJ Dec

Tea and cakes at Temple Balsall - September 2009
|
| The last walk of the season was the traditional one at Temple Balsall.
This was led again by Sandra and Richard Lea, as Leighton Jones was (again)
working away! 23 adults, two children and a dog enjoyed a very pleasant
afternoon walk. The ground was very dry so no muddy boots at the end.
The majority of the walkers then sat in the sunshine enjoying tea and cake
outside the Old Hall. An excellent end to the season. Don't forget
the next walk - Boxing Day morning 11 am from the Guild House. LJ Oct 09

| Knowle By-ways Part 3 Walk - June 2009 |
| On a delightful summer's evening sixteen Society
members were taken on a stroll around the by-ways of Knowle. Leaving
from the Village Hall, the route took in Job's Close Park and the footpath
links between all the housing estates on the east side of Tilehouse Green
Lane, eventually emerging from Purnell's Way onto Station Road. From
there the party took the footpath that leads past the back entrance to Arden
School and Lansdowne Farm to meet the Warwick Road at the bottom of Stripes
Hill. This is opposite the proposed entrance to the planned Marina.
Having returned to Knowle via the Warwick Road and having covered a varied 3.5
miles, everyone felt that they had earned their own form of liquid
refreshment! LJ

| Hillfield & Widney Manor Walk - May 2009 |
| This walk was less popular than the recent and
topical 'Marinas' walk and on this occasion was kindly led by Sandra &
Richard Lea, Richard also took the photographs. |

| Boxing Day Walk - 2008 |
| It is clear that Knowle people are especially
favoured, as the weather for the Boxing Day walk was again clear and fine, if
a little chilly. Due to the amount of rain we've had lately the route
had to be changed, using rather more of the canal towpath and rather more of
the field footpaths. It didn't spoil the enjoyment of the near 100
people who turned out for the walk. Or was it for the traditional mince
pies and mulled wine? Either way the event was clearly appreciated
by the regulars and those for whom it was the first time. LJ
