How the committee operates

The Community Services committee has monthly meetings which are chaired by John Rowley (Knowle 778289) and its primary task is to monitor anything which could impact the village with respect to public safety, transportation, public highways and litter.  This is mainly done by representation by members of the sub-committee on various outside bodies. In addition local police are invited to attend our meetings so that an agreed approach to any potential problems can be discussed.

Representation on outside bodies

The sub-committee discusses areas of concern and feed back from the external bodies on which The Knowle Society is represented:-

Birmingham International Airport Consultative Committee

Birmingham International Airport Environmental Monitoring Working Group

Solihull MBC Partnership

West Midlands Police Rural Assembly

West Midlands Congestion Management

Relationship with Solihull Council

We have extremely good relationships with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.  Our three local Councillors are invited to all the Society's Trustee Director meetings and a full exchange of views takes place.

Police Surgeries in Knowle

Following poor attendances by the public, the local neighbourhood police has now (as at August 2008) stopped holding 'surgeries' in Knowle Village Hall on the first Monday of every month but instead aims to achieve local consultation through the use of the Police mobile van.  Details may be found on the Solihull Police website.

The West Midlands Police website is also offered here for your information.

Airport Matters

Plans for developments at Birmingham Airport and the potential impact of these plans on Knowle are monitored closely, including participating in the airport's consultative committee . Where appropriate the Society seeks wider public consultation within the village and also submits responses to consultations by the airport authorities. The most recent submission was in March 2006 and may be viewed here.

Updates on all items of interest and concern appear regularly in the Society's Newsletter, this website and at its main meetings.
