This year the Parade will be held on Sunday 10th November.
The impressive Parade will leave from the Royal British Legion at about 10:15. The High Street will be closed between 10am and 1pm to allow safe passage of the parade. Led by the band and Members of the RBL, it will include representatives of youth organisations in the Village. They will arrive at Knowle Parish Church in time for the Remembrance Service at 11am, passing the War Memorial which was refurbished in time for last year’s Remembrance.
As is usual in Knowle, the wreaths will have been laid on the Sunday before in the presence of the Mayor, our MP and local Councillors.
As you will know, the Society has taken the Box into its care and paid to have it refurbished as an iconic feature in the middle of the Village. We have been considering possible uses for it and have decided to start by displaying local and Society information. The intention is to allow controlled posting of information from other village societies.
With the onset of darker evenings, and even before the clocks go back, our local police officers are already noticing an increase in the instances of burglary in the area. These are largely opportunist and the police advise that common-sense precautions will often deter. Yet they frequently find that these are not being observed. As a reminder they recommend that, both at night and when the property is empty, doors and windows are locked, including side access gates, conservatories and outbuildings. Tools should be locked away and if you have an alarm, set it (where possible) when you go to bed at night as well as when you go out.
